A treatment applied once a surface is clean, to keep moss, algae and lichen from coming straight back. It carries on working after we leave, and on roofs it is backed by our 2-year no-regrowth guarantee.
Applying the treatment from the ground, Crossens, Southport
Cleaning a roof, patio or driveway gets it looking right again. The treatment is what keeps it that way. It is applied once the surface is clean, and it carries on working long after we have packed up, so the moss, algae and lichen that would otherwise return are held back.
A surface that is cleaned and then left untreated starts to green up again quickly. That is the whole reason this step exists.
A treatment goes onto a clean surface. Where there is organic matter sitting there now, moss, or thick clumps of lichen, that has to come off first. It is either removed mechanically or washed off, and the treatment goes on afterwards.
That order is not a preference, it is how a biocide is meant to be used. The Biocidal Products Regulation, enforced by the Health and Safety Executive, says proper use means a rational combination of measures, physical as well as chemical, with the biocide limited to the minimum necessary and appropriate precautions taken. Taking the growth off is the physical part. The treatment then does the smaller job it is actually there for.
There is a good reason behind that rule. Moss and lichen are living habitat: insects live in them, and birds feed on the insects. Putting a biocide over a thick layer of growth loads far more product into that chain than the job needs. Taking the bulk off first keeps the amount down to what is necessary.
We use HSE-licensed biocides only (Licence No. 10766), a professional-use product, applied by a Professional User of Biocides.
A roof that has simply gone green with algae is fine to treat as it is. But where there is moss, or thick clumps of lichen, we will tell you it needs cleaning first rather than simply take the booking, and every roof clean we do already includes the treatment free of charge.
A treatment on its own makes sense on a surface that is already clean, or where algae's starting to form. The same goes for one we have cleaned for you before, treating it again keeps it looking that way, rather than waiting until the green turns into moss and lichen starts to form again. Then you are looking at it all over again.

It goes on once the surface is clean and keeps working after we have left, so moss, algae and lichen are slowed down rather than coming straight back. On roofs, it is what sits behind our 2-year no-regrowth guarantee.
No, and we would rather say so. Organic matter such as moss or thick clumps of lichen is removed mechanically or washed off first, and the treatment goes onto the cleaned surface afterwards. That is how the Biocidal Products Regulation says a biocide should be used. Physical measures first, with the product kept to the minimum necessary, and it keeps the chemical out of the insects and birds that live in the growth. The good news is that a roof clean already includes the treatment free, so you are not paying for it twice.
On a roof, yes. The 2-year no-regrowth guarantee covers roofs, whether the treatment comes as part of a roof clean or on its own. If growth returns within those two years, we come back and re-treat free of charge. The guarantee is a roof guarantee, so it does not extend to patios, driveways or render, where how long a treatment lasts depends a great deal on the surface and how much shade and damp it sits in.
Roofs, patios, driveways and render, along with other outdoor surfaces where a treatment is suitable. Shane will tell you honestly if a surface is not right for one.
You can, but a surface that is cleaned and left untreated starts to green up again quickly. The treatment is there to hold that back, so the clean you have paid for lasts a great deal longer.
It helps to say hello at the start, but you do not need to stay. We work from the outside and will let you know once we are finished.
